UGC to Brand Promotion

Last weekend, I watched the 2012 MTV Movie awards (check out my storify project on it) and blogged about MTV’s social strategy promoting the show.

The pre-show programming on MTV was Ashton Kutcher’s  Punk’d, a show that started in 2003, took a five year hiatus in 2007 and came back to be just as popular. In addition to taking over Charlie Sheen’s old show, Kutcher is also a face for Nikon.

Nikon’s Small Moments campaign on facebook encourages users to “share moments.”

According to a press release from the company, a Nikon  senior communications manager, Lisa Baxt said:

“Nikon encourages people to capture and share memorable moments in their lives, big or small, and with the introduction of the Nikon 1 advanced camera with interchangeable lens system, we’re making it easier for consumers to capture these moments through high quality images with confidence…through the Small Moments are Huge program, people will get the chance to share the important moments in their lives in an online community where everyday inspiration and fun can be celebrated.

One of the great things about this project is that while it promotes the brand, and Nikon has been serious in the photography world for years, it’s also about capturing moments. Perhaps they should team up with Coke and call it Small Summer Moments and the best images could be shared on Coke-Cola’s Tumblr page.
